Purpose of the Job
The AC & Electrical Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing and maintaining electrical and air-conditioning systems on BPTC buses. The role ensures that vehicles are maintained safely, efficiently and in accordance with BPTC procedures, quality standards and operational requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- Diagnose electrical, electronic and AC faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and specialist equipment.
- Repair and maintain vehicle air-conditioning and electrical systems.
- Carry out routine preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
- Support the preparation of buses for monthly and annual electrical testing.
- Install, test and repair electrical components, wiring and related systems.
- Perform refrigeration servicing and repairs in accordance with approved procedures.
- Ensure all repairs are completed safely, accurately and within agreed timelines.
- Record completed work, materials used, identified defects and repair outcomes in the approved maintenance system.
- Maintain tools, equipment and assigned materials in good condition.
- Report recurring defects, safety concerns, equipment failures and parts requirements to the Workshop Manager.
- Work collaboratively with other technicians to support vehicle availability and service delivery.
- Share technical knowledge and support the development of colleagues and trainees.
- Participate in emergency, out-of-hours or on-call maintenance when operationally required.
- Comply with BPTC safety, environmental, quality, data protection, drugs and alcohol, and workshop procedures.
Qualifications
- Diploma, vocational certificate or equivalent technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Electrical Systems, Refrigeration or a related discipline.
- Relevant technical certification or trade qualification is preferred.
- Additional certification in automotive air-conditioning or refrigeration would be an advantage.
Experiences
- Relevant practical experience in vehicle electrical and air-conditioning maintenance.
- Experience maintaining buses, commercial vehicles or heavy vehicles is preferred.
- Experience using electrical diagnostic equipment and specialist vehicle-testing tools.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis and workshop safety procedures.
